CNC Machine Shop Manager, Up to £50,000 per annum, Coldstream, Permanent

Key Responsibilities:
- Lead, motivate, and manage a team of CNC machinists to achieve production, quality, and efficiency targets
- Provide hands-on support with CNC programming and machine operation, including:
- Doosan sub-spindle machines
- Star sliding-head lathes
- Haas milling machines
- Oversee production planning, scheduling, and allocation of resources, tooling, and materials
- Guide machinists in interpreting engineering drawings, selecting appropriate tooling, and optimising machining processes
- Supervise machine setup, calibration, routine maintenance, and safe operating practices
- Implement robust quality control procedures and collaborate with QC/CMM teams to resolve any issues
- Diagnose machining problems and coordinate maintenance or repairs as required
- Promote and enforce health & safety standards, including delivering training to the team
- Drive continuous improvement initiatives focused on productivity, accuracy, and cost savings
- Maintain accurate records for production, maintenance schedules, and quality checks
- Support budgeting and cost-control activities within the CNC department
Requirements:
- Proven experience in CNC programming and CAD/CAM
- Strong leadership background with previous managerial experience
- Hands-on, practical approach to machining and production challenges
- Strong IT skills, including proficiency in Excel and other operational software
- Excellent problem-solving ability and a commitment to high-quality output
- Ability to manage, develop, and motivate a team in a fast-paced production environment
Desirable Requirements:
- Experience working with Doosan, Star, and Haas machinery (preferred but not essential)
- Additional training or certifications in machine tool operation or engineering
- Experience implementing lean manufacturing or process-improvement initiatives
