About this role:

CNC Machine Shop Manager, Up to £50,000 per annum, Coldstream, Permanent

Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead, motivate, and manage a team of CNC machinists to achieve production, quality, and efficiency targets
  • Provide hands-on support with CNC programming and machine operation, including:
    • Doosan sub-spindle machines
    • Star sliding-head lathes
    • Haas milling machines
  • Oversee production planning, scheduling, and allocation of resources, tooling, and materials
  • Guide machinists in interpreting engineering drawings, selecting appropriate tooling, and optimising machining processes
  • Supervise machine setup, calibration, routine maintenance, and safe operating practices
  • Implement robust quality control procedures and collaborate with QC/CMM teams to resolve any issues
  • Diagnose machining problems and coordinate maintenance or repairs as required
  • Promote and enforce health & safety standards, including delivering training to the team
  • Drive continuous improvement initiatives focused on productivity, accuracy, and cost savings
  • Maintain accurate records for production, maintenance schedules, and quality checks
  • Support budgeting and cost-control activities within the CNC department

Requirements:

  • Proven experience in CNC programming and CAD/CAM
  • Strong leadership background with previous managerial experience
  • Hands-on, practical approach to machining and production challenges
  • Strong IT skills, including proficiency in Excel and other operational software
  • Excellent problem-solving ability and a commitment to high-quality output
  • Ability to manage, develop, and motivate a team in a fast-paced production environment

Desirable Requirements:

  • Experience working with Doosan, Star, and Haas machinery (preferred but not essential)
  • Additional training or certifications in machine tool operation or engineering
  • Experience implementing lean manufacturing or process-improvement initiatives
